At St John’s on-the Hill we encourage all of our boarders to take part in a wide range of activities, from making their own Christmas decorations to visiting theme parks or going out for dinner together.
During the week, evening staff take a range of activities such as dodgeball, swimming, cookery or card games. We also allow pupils to take some down time in the evenings if they choose to do so, or to catch up on homework or write an e-mail home. On weekends, we usually run trips out of school on both Saturday and Sunday afternoons, such as cycling in the Forest of Dean, visiting activity centres, theme parks or other local attractions. They also enjoy nights in with their house parents, often helping to cook dinner for each other, watching movies together, or occasionally playing games and eating pizza in their pyjamas!
As a boarding house, we also run our own charity events, which the boarders help to organise and run. In 2016, we are hoping to complete a “Mega-Triathlon” – between us we are aiming to climb the height of Everest, swim the width of the channel and run a marathon in support of a local charity.
