St John’s pupils had the opportunity to work on a large scale mural to highlight the school’s South Africa exchange trip. Children from Years 7 and 8 painted animal silhouettes and trees in small groups focussing on teamwork and communication.

Each group had a project leader, someone to draw an outline, someone to paint and someone to edit and complete the various parts of the mural.

The children learnt about the process of layering paint and colours to build a dynamic image. They also explored painting on a textured surface and furthered their knowledge and control of a paintbrush…especially how to create a smooth line on a bumpy surface!
