St John’s on-the-Hill School pupils, Ewan Shakeshaft and Millie Taylor, took third and fourth place at the Junior Language Challenge on Wednesday 12th September. Ewan now goes through to the final in London on Friday 9th November.

Head of Modern Foreign Languages, Mrs A Crathorn, said: “We are so proud of them as the competition was very fierce with more than 2,000 participants. They worked very hard to learn Khmer the official language of Cambodia, which is extremely challenging. We wish Ewan good luck in the final – som aôyy ban chouk choy (good luck in Khmer).”

The Junior Language Challenge is the only national language competition in the UK open to primary school age children. It is run by language learning company uTalk and it aims to introduce children to new languages and make learning fun.
