As part of a new well-being programme at St John’s on-the-Hill School the children are having lessons about how the brain works and how people learn. These encourage pupils to focus on developing their abilities with increased effort and a willingness to learn from mistakes.
The programme, led by Miss Duncan, began with a special assembly on Neuroplasticity, looking at how the neurons in our brain connect every time we do something. This means the more times we do something, the stronger the connection and the easier it becomes.
Throughout the term the children will have classes on how to foster a positive approach to learning including growth mindset.
