Art at St John’s gives students the opportunity to explore and experiment in a range of media and techniques; painting, chalk, block printing and sculpture, to name a few.
Years 3 and 4 are introduced to different materials and techniques, focusing on improving practical ability. Years 5 and 6 explore more traditional art forms, such as still life and portraits, as well as continuing to improve ability and learning new techniques.
Years 7 and 8 complete project based work and students are given a brief to follow and complete. To fulfil their brief, students are encouraged to use all that they have learnt, to explore new art mediums and to look to other artists for inspiration.
The Art Department organises workshops with artists and trips to art galleries to enhance experiences in the subject. These opportunities inspire and encourage children to explore art in greater depth. Our children produce outstanding work which is celebrate at our annual Art Exhibition. A large number of students have gone on to receive art scholarships at senior schools.
