All children in Years 3 to 8 have a weekly fifty minute Drama lesson in the Singleton Hall, which enables the children to work from an early age on and around the stage.
Children experience a variety of differing topics.
Children in Years 3-6 are involved in annual year group productions and children in Years 7-8 are involved in the Preparatory School musical production; either in an acting and singing capacity or through a stage management role. Nursery and Pre-Prep children perform a Christmas production each year. Both Pre-Prep and Preparatory School children participate in an end of year Summer Concert.
Drama promotes and nurtures children’s self-confidence and ability to work as a team so that they can tackle the challenges of performing in public and speak out with confidence.
A wide range of live theatre opportunities equips our pupils with essential life skills – creativity, team work, communication, decision making, risk taking and presentation.
In addition to Drama lessons we offer drama clubs, dance clubs, performance workshops and coaching.
St John’s prides itself on the inclusive nature of its productions. Pupils are encouraged to be creative and have opportunities to explore an array of theatrical styles, from musicals to Shakespeare.
For those who prefer to work behind the scenes there are plenty of roles in lighting, sound, set-design and backstage support.
